PLAINVILLE – Supporters of the Petit Family Foundation are invited to join them for a virtual reunion Thursday. They will be giving updates on the Foundation and its plans going forward. Additionally, there will be a demonstration from NPR’s “Faith Middleton Food Schmooze.”
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. over Zoom. Bill Petit said that it is intended as a “token of appreciation” for supporters.
“We didn’t have our golf tournament this year where we would ordinarily see about 300 people, or our race where we’d see a few thousand,” said Petit. “We wanted to do something to thank our contributors, tell them what we’ve been up to and what we’ll be doing going forward. We have decided to go forward with the budget that we set in December and starting in September we will be taking applications for grants.”
Petit said that one of the updates he will give will be the Foundation’s continuing relationship with the Space Foundation.
“Two years ago, a couple hundred high school girls and 50 or 60 teachers came to the Connecticut Convention Center to hear a presentation from astronauts,” said Petit. “This past year, astronauts working with the Foundation visited middle schools in New Britain, Plainville and Middletown, the latter of which was a virtual program due to schools closing due to COVID-19.”
Petit said that the schools the astronauts will visit this yet have not yet been determined, as he is waiting to see which schools physically open.
Following this discussion, Petit said that the “local celebrity restaurateur hosts” from the Faith Middleton Food Schmooze will put on a “delicious” presentation. Presenters will include Faith Middleton Metro Bis’ Chef Chris Prosperi, Senior, Contributor Alex Province and Mark Raymond.
“Faith, Chris, Alex, and Mark will teach us how to make easy summer cocktails on video and pair it with delicious food,” said Petit. “The easy ingredient list as well as the Zoom link will be sent upon RSVP to the event.”

The Petit Foundation’s mission is to “foster the education of young people, especially women in the sciences; to improve the lives of those affected by chronic illnesses; and to support efforts to protect and help those affected by violence.”
