BRISTOL – The Manning/Sisson Memorial Fund at the Main Street Community Foundation has awarded $1,000 grants to the Bristol and Plainville recreation swim teams.

Samantha Rajotte, scholarship & program officer at the Main Street Community Foundation, said that the fund was established in 2021 in memory of Dennis and Anna May Manning and their daughter Mary Sisson.

"The Mannings raised their seven children in Bristol and were involved in each sport their children played, but especially swimming," she said. "For that reason, while grants will be made from this fund to charitable organizations at the recommendation of the donors, there is a preference for programs that foster the sport of swimming."

Rajotte said that swim programs that support team competition and skill-building at the municipal, recreational level for the City of Bristol or the Town of Plainville will be supported through from the Manning/Sisson Memorial Fund.

This year's grants will support the Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services department's Bristol Splash Swim Team and the Plainville Recreation Department's Blue Dolphins Swim Team.

"Both of these grants were presented to staff of each department by Main Street Community Foundation staff as well as Don Sisson and Clare Wight, Mary Sisson’s husband and sister respectively," said Rajotte.

The Manning/Sisson Memorial Fund is a donor advised fund, which allows for grants to be made at the recommendation of donors.
