PLAINVILLE - The painful season that has been Plainville boys basketball is almost over.

Although they kept it close after the first quarter, the Blue Devils quickly fell apart in the second on their way to a 77-44 loss to Platt Thursday night.

Jared Demmons scored a game-high 21 points for Plainville. He was joined by teammate Sam Lestini as the only two players for the home team to reach double-figures. Lestini had 10 points.

The Blue Devils are now 0-19 with one game left - against Berlin on Tuesday - to earn that elusive first win.

Despite Plainville being down just four points after the first eight minutes of play, the Panthers made the game one-sided in the second quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 23-2. Things were only slightly worse after halftime when Platt outscored Plainville 26-14.

The Blue Devils was finally about to put up more points than its opponent in the fourth (15-11), but by then it was too late as the Panthers had already pulled back.
