NEW BRITAIN - It turns out, the New Britain golf team is saving some of its best performances for the end of the regular season.
Led by Tim Carrier’s 41, the Hurricanes turned in their best outing on the course this year, beating Bloomfield 191-280 Tuesday afternoon despite rainy conditions.
It was also the first time New Britain had broken the 200-point mark this season.
“We finally got the kind of scoring that I expect from these guys,” Hurricanes head coach Bob Zadrozny said. “They’ve been working hard all year and I’m proud of how they played today, especially under tough conditions.”
After Carrier, who was the medalist of the match, was Johnny Morell, who shot a 43. Dylan Washington (52) and Arthur Bell (55) rounded out New Britain’s scoring.
Bristol Eastern 204, Plainville 212: It was a close match throughout most of the afternoon. The Blue Devils just didn’t have enough as the Lancers earned their first win of the season.
Justin Jacques was the medalist after shooting a 49 for Bristol Eastern, while Logan Manger was the low scorer for Plainville after falling just two strokes behind with a 51.
Jacob Deschaine (53), Christian Zamudio (54) and Alan Nilson (54) rounded out the Blue Devils’ scoring. Mollie Lewis (51), Kelsea Wyrebek (52) and Drew Fries (52) were the other top scorers for Bristol Eastern.
Goodwin Tech 214, Kaynor Tech 215: The Gladiators claimed the win, while the Panthers’ George Pastorok who was the medalist on the afternoon.
Goodwin Tech was led by Josh Donaghy (51), Logan Stine (53), Jackson Collin (54) and Farrell Leardi (56).
Southington 3, Farmington 1: The Blue Knights got a test in their first-round matchup of the CCC Tournament after getting the better of the Indians with set scores of 25-11, 25-21, 32-34 and 25-21.
That also means there were plenty of standout performances. Southington’s Tim Walsh led the way with 18 kills and 20 digs. His teammates Zack Morgan and Niko Sophroniou had 39 assists and 23 digs respectively.
The Blue Knights are now 16-2.
