BLOOMFIELD - The Plainville High football team got off to a shaky start Friday night in its quest to improve upon last season’s .500 record and qualify for the postseason.
Playing on the road against traditional state power Bloomfield - which is also seeking improvement this year after just missing the playoffs last year - the Blue Devils were unable to get anything going on offense and their defense crumbled against the talented Warhawks as Bloomfield won 53-0.
Plainville’s Christian Collin had one of the few highlights for the Blue Devils in the game, getting an interception while Plainville was still down just 8-0 in the first half. But soon after, Bloomfield recovered a Plainville fumble and scored a touchdown to make it 14-0.
The Warhawks went on to take a 34-0 lead by halftime.
Bloomfield’s Ky’Juon Butler ran for three touchdowns, including one covering 70 yards in the second quarter to make it 20-0.
Caleb Goodison had a pair of short-range plunges for touchdowns for the Warhawks, while Daron Bryden threw three touchdown passes - two to David Robinson and one to Michael Raiford.
Bloomfield also got two points on a safety when Plainville snapped the ball out of the end zone on a punt attempt early in the game.
Plainville will get a chance to rebound when it hosts Bulkeley/HMTCA/Weaver next Friday at 6:30 p.m.
