PLAINVILLE – The Plainville sports Hall of Fame announced that its induction ceremony for the class of 2020 has been canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The ceremony, originally scheduled for this October at Nuchie’s Restaurant, will wait until next year after the board of directors decided canceling would be the best and safest decision as uncertainty with COVID-19 still lingers.

“The Board would like to apologize for any inconvenience this decision may create, but [it] was made with the utmost caution regarding the safety of everyone who supports our event,” the board said I a press release. “We look forward to next year's event where we can again celebrate the successes of the Class of 2021.”

The induction ceremony won’t happen, but the Hall of Fame still announced its winners for the Byron J. Treado III Founders Award, with Vanessa Xiques and Tyler Mandeville winning the $1,000 awards for “demonstrating the ability to balance academics and athletics while placing the team above themselves.” Xiques was a key contributor to the Blue Devils’ girls basketball team this past winter, while Mandeville contributed to the boys swimming and baseball teams.
