SIMSBURY - New Britain lost to Simsbury Thursday night, losing 3-1.

The Hurricanes dropped the first two sets 25-8 and 25-17, but got on the board with a third set win at 25-22. The fourth set went to Simsbury 25-14 to seal the game.

Isamarys Rodriguez tallied 19 digs and Wendeley Garcia had 11 digs. Paula Torres had six kills, going 18 for 21 on attack.

Plainville 3, Manchester 2: Plainville defeated Manchester Thursday night, winning in the penultimate fifth set in a 3-2 victory.

Abbott Tech 3, Goodwin Tech 2: Goodwin Tech lost 3-2 to Abbott Tech Thursday night, winning the opening set and the third set before falling in the fifth set.

Goodwin got ahead by taking the first frame 25-21, but then dropped the second 25-19. Goodwin needed extra time to get a 26-24 win in the third set, but Abbott’s rally came late enough to seal the win with a 25-23 fourth set win and a 15-12 fifth set decider to hold on for the win.

Rachael Astacio had 17 points from serve. Maribel Gonzales had 14 service points, five aces and five kills.

Boys soccer

Goodwin Tech 2, Kaynor Tech 1: Two goals from Goodwin Tech’s Brennan Vicente and Damen Stepien helped push GT over the edge Thursday night in a 2-1 win over Kaynor Tech.

The win is the first o the season for Goodwin, who was playing in its season opener. Vicente’s score to put Goodwin on the board was his first career goal in his first career game.

Dylan Johns led the game in saves for Goodwin, tallying four.

Lewis Mills 4, Bristol Eastern 2: Bristol Eastern boys soccer lost its se4ason opener Thursday afternoon, falling 4-2 to Lewis Mills.

The Bristol boys allowed goals to Charlie Joiner, Aleks Swider, Luke Bushka and Ryan Begert.

Plainville 4, Platt 1: Plainville won 4-1 Thursday night, taking a season-opening win in the procress.

Girls soccer

Southington 4, Conard 2: Southington defeated Conard Thursday night 4-2, securing the first win of the season for Southington girls soccer.

Southington tied it up with 13 minutes to go off a corner kick and took a 3-2 lead with nine minutes to go, getting the go-ahead score from Julia Rusiecki. Rusiecki tacked on the insurance goal four minutes later to secure the win for Southington.

Lewis Mills 3, Bristol Eastern 2: Bristol Eastern got out early but couldn’t hold the lead in a 3-2 loss to Lewis Mills Thursday night.

Eastern had a score in the 16th minute by Emily Nelson and a score in the 24th minute by Bella Sanchez. Mills rallied, scoring in the 29th minute and again in the 60th minute to even the score.

Riley Mills scored the game-winner in the 74th minute for the first loss of the season for Eastern

Grace D’Amato had four saves in goal for Bristol.

Boys golf

Berlin 164, Newington 176: Berlin beat Newington Thursday night in golf 164-176.

The medalist from the meet was Terrence Dornfried of Berlin, finishing with a 37.
