HEBRON – Plainville football’s four-game win streak was snapped on Saturday as it fell to RHAM, 25-21, in a wet and rainy contest at Varsity Field.

The Blue Devils led for virtually the entire game until the Raptors took the lead with less than two minutes left in regulation on a 30-yard touchdown run from Max Nylen.

Nylen was huge for the hosts as the junior running back scored all four RHAM touchdowns on rushing plays that combined for 160 yards.

“He’s a good back, we knew that on film, we knew we had to corral him and put stops on him,” Plainville coach Tim Shea said. “He broke some long runs. It’s sports, somebody’s going to win, somebody’s going to lose. Today it was us.”

Blue Devils quarterback M.J. Bakaysa tossed three touchdown passes, two to tight end Justin Emery and another to Joe Vasquez, in a solid performance for the QB despite the final result.

“He’s coming along nicely,” Shea said. “I’m the QB coach too so I spend an immense amount of time with him and every week he’s gotten better. His decision making is good, he takes some chances but you want that as a quarterback sometimes.”

Bakaysa’s trio of passing scores totaled 111 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown throw to Joe Vasquez in the second quarter.

Plainville appeared to be in good shape late in the game after scoring early in the fourth on a 25-yard catch from Emery to go up 21-12.

However, the Raptors defense tightened up and got some good breaks as the Blue Devils turned the ball over twice in the frame and RHAM blocked a punt to set up Nylen’s game-winning score.

“We’ve had the breaks go our way for the majority of our weeks and today, in the end, it didn’t,” Shea said. “We shot ourselves in the foot numerous times. We don’t score in the red zone a couple of times. There was a questionable drop in the end zone, but that’s neither here nor there. At the end of the day, they scored four more points than us.

“There were a few stops we didn’t make and we got to get better,” Shea said. “We have too many letdowns here and there and in the earlier part of the year we were able to play through them and capitalize at the end. Not for a lack of effort, but we just couldn’t do it today.”

RHAM improves to 3-4 with the victory while Plainville drops to 5-2.

The Blue Devils will look to get back on track when they host E.O. Smith next Friday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
