Roundup: Bristol Central, Plainville boys soccer lose in postseason play

BRISTOL – Bristol Central boys soccer’s playoff run came to a close Thursday night in the second round of the CIAC’s Class L tournament, falling to No. 9 Guilford in a 1-0 final.

The loss closes the season for the N0. 8 Rams at 12-4-2. Stats from Thursday’s game for Bristol Central were unavailable at time of publication.

Stonington 4, Plainville 0: Plainville boys soccer lost to No. 3 Stonington Thursday night, making the end of the season for the No. 19 Blue Devils in the second round of Class M play.

Three goals from Stonington’s Sam Montalto helped push Stonington ahead in the win.

Plainville closes the season with a record of 9-7-2.

Girls volleyball

Greenwich 3, Bristol Central 0: Second-ranked Greenwich eliminated No. 15 Bristol Central from the Class LL girls volleyball tournament Thursday night, beating the Rams in a clean sweep of 3-0.

Greenwich took the sets 25-12, 25-14 and 25-5.

Central closes the season with a record of 15-7. Stats were unavailable at time of publishing.

Girls swim and diving

Southington competed in the Class LL girls swim and diving qualifiers Thursday night.

Notable finishes from the meet for Southington came in in the 200 by Ella Nadeau, finishing 10th with a time of 2:12.68.

Nadeau also had a strong finish in the 500 free style, placing seventh at 5:19.00.

In Wednesday’s Class L qualifiers, Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central both competed, getting mixed results from both sides.

In the one meter diving, Eastern’s Alexsia Newman scored a 343.13 for second overall. Central’s Isabella Cordero took 14th in the 100 backstroke, clocking a time of 1:03.97. Nyomi Cordero was 15th in the 100 yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:13.50.

Wednesday was also the day of the Class S qualifiers, with St. Paul and Plainville performing in the meet.

St. Paul’s Amelia Badzioch timed a 2:05.70 in the 200 freestyle, placing eighth in the field. Badzioch was also 11th in the 500 freestyle, timing a 5:43.10.

Bryndle Kroll took 13th for St. Paul in the 100 freestyle, clocking a time of 59.68.

Notable finishes for Plainville include Zeel Patel’s time of 1:12.65 in the 100 butterfly and Vanessa Maciaszek’s time of 1:09.09 in the 100 freestyle.
