Memorial Day events set in Southington

SOUTHINGTON - In addition to its annual parade, American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 will be conducting memorial services at several locations on the morning of Memorial Day May 27.

Participants in this year’s parade will gather at Derynoski Elementary School’s lower parking lot on Eden Avenue between 9:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. and the parade will start at 10:30 a.m.

The parade will proceed west on to Liberty Street, through the intersection at Columbus Avenue, on to the intersection at Center Street, then to the town green, turning right on Apple Way and then making a final right turn onto Columbus Avenue, where the paade will end and participants disperse.

A ceremony honoring veterans will be held immediately following in front of Post 72 at 64 Main St.

Before the parade, memorial services will be conducted at the following locations by the American Legion:

Panthorn Park, 7:30 a.m.

Wonx Springs Cemetery, 7:45 a.m.

Quinnipiac Cemetery, 8 a.m.

Recreation Park, 8:20 a.m.

South End Cemetery, 8:30 a.m.

Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 8:35 a.m.

Orchards at Southington, 8:45 a.m.

The Marine Corps League will conduct memorial services at:

Memorial Park, 7:30 a.m.

Oak Hill Cemetery, 7:45 a.m.

Holy Trinity Cemetery, 8:05 a.m.

West St. Cemetery, 8:15 a.m.

St. Thomas Cemetery, 8:35 a.m.

Local veterans organizations will hold a joint flag-raising ceremony at Southington Care Center at 9 a.m.
