SOUTHINGTON - Tickets are going on sale now for the Southington Chamber of Commerce’s 8th annual Pizza Fest, with the popular event planned for Sept. 12 at Crystal Bees.

Pizza Fest will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crystal Bees, an upscale entertainment center featuring bowling and a variety of games and located at 240 Spring St. The event, which transitioned from a competition to a pizza tasting last year when it was held at Plainville High School, offers residents the chance to sample the culinary creations of a variety of local eateries.

“The venue change gives us the opportunity to showcase a member business and gives residents the chance to enjoy bowling and games,” said Elizabeth Hyatt, executive director of the Southington Chamber of Commerce. “Vendors loved the change in format. It not being a competition resulted in there being less stress as they engaged in friendly conversations with customers and each other. The overall feedback from participants is that it is a great, fun family event.”

Kathleen Begey, sales and events manager at Crystal Bees, said she is “very excited” to host Pizza Fest.

“This is very big for us,” she said. “A lot of people in Southington don’t know that we’re here yet, so we’re hoping that this will help to get the word out there. We will be coming up with a bowling or arcade package for participants that day.”

Last year, nine vendors participated including three newcomers, the food trucks Pizza One and Family Pizza, as well as the restaurant Plantsville Pizza.

“This year we would ideally like to have more than a dozen vendors,” said Hyatt. “We are asking vendors to bring at least two types of pizzas for participants to sample. It is free for vendors to sign up; this event is designed to help get them featured in front of the community and expand their customer base. Last year we had a couple hundred people coming through, so it is definitely a priceless opportunity to get exposure.”

Hyatt said that the chamber has reached out to 49 pizza restaurants and those that are interested are welcome to contact the chamber as long as they deliver to Southington.

Pizza Fest is being sponsored this year by Webster Bank, Calcagni Real Estate and Team Demas Orthodontics.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door or $5 for kids ages 5 and under. The chamber is also offering group pricing options. For more information, visit or call 860-628-8036.
