SOUTHINGTON - A Naugatuck man has been charged in an assault at a local motel.

Daniel Akinsyana, 27, turned himself in on Saturday in connection with a warrant charging him with second-degree assault, interfering with an officer and making a false statement.

The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 7 at Motel 6, at 625 Queen St. Police said Akinsyana has been accused of striking someone in the head with an ashtray during a dispute there.

Police did not release any more details about the alleged assault.

According to Bristol Superior Court officials, the case is considered domestic violence. Because of this, no identifying information has been released about the victim.

Akinsyana is free on $50,000 bond, and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Bristol Superior Court.
