SOUTHINGTON - The United Way of Southington is planning its annual Kick-Off breakfast Sept. 13 at The Manor Inn.

The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. 1636 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Milldale. Business and community leaders are being invited to attend and enjoy a complimentary breakfast.

“This event officially kicks off our annual drive for financial support for 2016-17 that is used to assist more than a dozen agencies that help Southington people,” said United Way Executive Director Jack Eisenmann.

The agency is seeking support from corporate and private businesses as well as individuals. United Way sponsors several community events throughout the year and has a board of 20 volunteer directors.

Eisenmann stated that the agency’s annual budget depends on contributions from the public and all dollars raised support the Southington community.

“Our assistance to the agencies that support local citizens relies on these donations,” he added. “All money contributed to our campaign remains in Southington for the benefit of Southington residents only,” he said.

Funds support A.L.I.C.E. (Asset, Limited Income, Constrained, Employed) Southington individuals and families. Approximately 29 percent of the Southington population is financially challenged to meet basic survival needs of food, clothing, shelter, transportation and child care.
