SOUTHINGTON - With the Southington Chamber of Commerce’s Pizza Fest at Crystal Bees coming up fast Sept. 12, several more restaurants and food trucks have hopped on-board.
The Pizza Fest will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Crystal Bees, at 240 Spring St., an entertainment center that features bowling, a bar and games. Last year, participants were able to sample slices from nine local vendors. This year the chamber aimed to attract a dozen pizza makers, all of whom deliver to Southington.
As of Friday, vendors included Family Pizza Truck, Glass Hat Bistro (Crystal Bees), New Haven Pizza Truck, David Alan Hospitality Group, Costco, Verona Pizza Truck and Renaldo’s Pizza.
Verona Pizza Truck, of Waterbury, is a mobile restaurant converted from a fire truck with a wood-burning brick oven at its heart.
Sal Ajro said Friday that he would be bringing the “best pizza in the world” to the tasting.
“We’ll have my plain cheese, pizza napoletana, buffalo chicken and mashed potato pizza,” he said. “It is a thin-crust style made right on the wood-fired brick oven. My truck has served Southington for 25 years and we’re looking forward to sharing our pizza with new people. Come to our table and we’ll take care of you.”
Chris Quiroga, owner of Renaldo’s Pizza, is looking forward to reintroducing himself to Southington, according to Liz Hyatt, executive director of the Southington Chamber of Commerce. He first purchased his property at 378 N. Main St. in 2010 and had renovated it just before an overnight fire caused massive damage to the property in May of last year.
Renaldo’s Pizza has since reopened and is ready for the event.
The Pizza Fest is sponsored this year by Webster Bank, Calcagni Real Estate and Team Demas Orthodontics.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door or $5 for kids ages 5 and under. The chamber is also offering group pricing options. For more information, visit southingtonchamber.com or call 860-628-8036.
