SOUTHINGTON - The Southington Public Library invites people to attend their evening book discussion Oct. 5, which will focus on “Hidden Figures” by Margot Lee Shetterly.

Librarian Shelley Holley will lead the discussion at 7 p.m. at the library at 255 Main St.

Shetterly’s bestselling biography follows the lives of “human computers” - Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson - three mathematicians who overcame discrimination, as African American women, while working at NASA during the Space Race.

It was the basis of a film by the same name which was nominated for three Oscars.

The book reached Number One on The New York Times Non-Fiction Bestseller list and got the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Nonfiction in 2017.

Copies of the book will be available at the Reference Desk.
