SOUTHINGTON - Bread for Life has received an outpouring of support for several programs intended to help feed the needy this Thanksgiving season.
Donna Ayer, executive director of Bread for Life, said that so many people have signed up to volunteer for upcoming Bread for Life programs that no more are needed at this time.
“We appreciate that people want to give back during this time of the year,” she said. “We also provide services and hold food drives year-round and we would appreciate support at these times as well.”
Ayer said that those who wish to make monetary donations to support Bread for Life’s work are also welcome to do so.
“November kicks off our annual appeal,” said Ayer. “Donations will help us with our operating costs such as paying for staff, heating and electricity.”
Bread for Life has planned several events to help ensure that no one goes hungry this Thanksgiving.
On Nov. 16, Bread for Life is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for its clients starting at 4:30 p.m. Anthony Jack’s restaurant has donated the food that will be served that night.
On Nov. 15, Bread for Life will have a mobile food pantry that will visit the Summer Brook Apartments in town.
“Kids Who Care,” a group of local middle school and high school students, will be making apple pies at Bread for Life Nov. 18 and they will then be selling them to family and friends, with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting Bread for Life.
On Nov. 18, “Families Feeding Families” will be delivering homemade apple pies to homebound residents and those who come into Bread for Life’s soup kitchen. Children will also be making cards for those who receive these pies.

“We’ll be able to help you,” she said.
