SOUTHINGTON - A local man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly strangling and sexually assaulting a woman.

Ryan McCormack, 37, is facing charges of sexual assault of a cohabitant, third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation and disorderly conduct.

According to the arrest warrant, the woman reported the allegations to police on Oct. 10 after she was brought to the Hospital of Central Connecticut’s Bradley Memorial Campus three days after the incident. The woman had bruising on her face and one of her arms and an injury to her neck.

According to the warrant, McCormack and the complainant argued late on Oct. 7, when he allegedly put both of his hands around the woman’s neck, then lifted her up and threw her onto a bed. She told police she was struggling to breathe as he continued to choke her, the warrant said.

The woman said she was able to get away from McCormack and run for the front door, which she says he closed on her arm. Then, she told police, he grabbed her neck and slammed her face onto a countertop.

The woman then ran into the bedroom, where McCormack allegedly touched her inappropriately and threatened to rape her, according to the arrest warrant.

He then allegedly let the woman go, took her cell phone and refused to take her to the hospital.

The woman went to work on Oct. 10 and lied to her colleagues, saying she had been in a car accident. A friend brought her to the hospital later in the day, and that’s when police became involved.

Police spoke to McCormack the same day the complaint was filed. He told officers he had thrown a phone at the woman, but he denied the rest of her allegations, the warrant said.

McCormack was arraigned Monday in Bristol Superior Court, where officials said the woman has no safety concerns.

McCormack, of 50 Cardinal Drive, posted $100,000 bond after the hearing.

He is due back in court on Dec. 7.
