SOUTHINGTON - State police arrested a Middlefield man at a Southington rest stop Thursday and charged him on multiple drug counts.

Edward Ortutay, 32, was taken into custody at about 7:40 a.m. at an Interstate 84 rest area.

State troopers were called on a report of a distraught man walking around the parking lot. Police found Ortutay, who appeared under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to state police.

He failed field sobriety tests and was found with enough drugs for troopers to believe he intended to sell them, state police said. The types of drugs were not disclosed.

Ortutay also had a warrant out for his arrest on aggravated assault charges.

Ortutay was charged Thursday with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, sale of a hallucinogen, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating under the influence and failure to keep narcotics in original container.
