SOUTHINGTON – Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz (D-Berlin/Southington) is sponsoring an essay contest for local students.

Rep. Aresimowicz is asking middle school and high school students from Berlin and Southington to submit essays of 250 to 500 words describing one place in our community that is special and unique to them. Students should include why they think this place is so special to them and the community.

“I spend a majority of my time in Berlin and Southington, but it’s always interesting to see our community from someone else’s perspective,” Aresimowicz said. “I thought this year’s essay contest was a great opportunity to let the younger generation tell me what aspects of the community mean the most to them. They may even highlight places I’ve never been to, so I’m excited to see their entries.”

Official state citations from the General Assembly will be presented to top entries. One student from each town will also have the opportunity to meet with Rep. Aresimowicz at their favorite spot in the community to show him why it is so special.

Students should submit their essays by May 14th and include their name, address and date of birth or current grade level with their submissions. Essays should be emailed to Rep. Aresimowicz at Joe.Aresimowicz@cga.ct.gov with “Essay Contest” in the subject line.

For more information please contact Rep. Aresimowicz at Joe.Aresimowicz@cga.ct.gov or 860-240-8500.
