SOUTHINGTON - A local woman and a pet died in a house fire over the weekend.

The blaze, reported Saturday shortly before 10 p.m. at 630 Prospect St., took firefighters hours to completely extinguish.

As of late Monday morning, the identity of the victim had not been released. She and the pet were the only ones home when the flames burst out. She was taken to an area hospital before being pronounced dead.

The cause of the fire has also not been determined, as the local fire marshal’s office and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit are still investigating.

No additional details were available Monday.
