SOUTHINGTON – In an effort to provide local runners with more information, The Southington YMCA has expanded the website for the 39th Annual Apple Harvest Festival Road Race, which will be held Sept. 30 downtown.

The website, sccymca.org/for-healthy-living/southington-ymca/apple-harvest-road-race, now features the race flyer, directions, a course map for the 5 mile and 5K races, results from last year, pictures from previous years, a sponsor list, training tips and information on Team Lauryn, Team Adam and Team Jim and Team SMSAA (Southington Middle School Sports Athletics Association).

John Myers, race director and executive director of the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA, explained that each of these teams will be conducting fundraisers. People can pay $30 to support these teams when signing up for the 5 mile or 5K races, with $20 going toward the race and $10 supporting the team’s fundraising.

“We are honored to have team Lauyrn back this year,” said Myers. “The money they raise will go toward supporting the Lauryn Oslo Scholarship Fund. This year we are also partnering with team SMSAA in their efforts to keep middle school sports alive and vibrant. We are also partnering with Team Adam and Team Jim to help raise memorial funds in memory of Adam Levin and Jim Mafiolini.”

Races that people will be able to participate in include the traditional 5-mile road race, which starts at 8:30 a.m. at the top of Columbus Boulevard, the 5K road race, which begins at 8:45 a.m. at the top of Columbus Boulevard, a two-mile health walk, which begins at 8:30 a.m. in front of the YMCA at 29 High St., the “Little Fritter” run for young children which starts at 9:30 a.m. on the town green and the “Y Cup” relay for local 4th and 5th graders.

People can register for the Apple Harvest Festival Road Race online at the race website. They can also print out the race flyer from the website and send it to the YMCA. Additionally, those interested in signing up can also drop by the Y during operating hours and sign-up in person.

Myers said that the first 1,200 people who sign up will receive a “very cool” Sport-tech t-shirt. Those who pre-register can pick up their number and t-shirt before race day at the Y Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The Y would like to give a special thanks to the hundreds of you who have already signed up,” said Myers. “Please spread the word to your friends and colleagues. We hope to see you Sept. 30; keep smiling.”

The Southington YMCA will also be offering a military discount, $20 instead of the normal $25 registration fee, for men and women who are serving or who have served. There will also be a special category of awards presented to service men and women.
