SOUTHINGTON - A two-car crash sent both vehicles into the median on I-691 on Friday and one person to the hospital.
The accident was reported just before 1 p.m. near Exit 4. The initial report indicated the vehicles had been traveling west before they ended up on the grassy area between the lanes heading in the opposite direction.
The vehicles, a sedan and a hatchback, ended up facing opposite directions of one another, about 30 yards apart. The sedan suffered damage to its driver side, and the collision caused its airbags to deploy. The hatchback sustained front end damage.
Both vehicles had to be towed.
One person was sent to St. Mary’s Hospital, in Waterbury, for what were not considered life-threatening injuries. Two other people involved declined to go to the hospital.
The crash caused traffic to back up in both directions while police and firefighters investigated and cleaned up the scene.
