SOUTHINGTON - Flanders Street is expected to be closed for hours after a car crashed into a utility pole Friday afternoon, cracking the pole at the base.

Police and firefighters were dispatched to the area of 337 Flanders St. at about 3:20 p.m., after a driver, heading east, left the right side of the road and crashed through a street sign, jolting the sign about 20 yards away, and into a utility pole. The pole snapped at the base, but did not fall down.

It is unclear if any injuries were reported.

Eversource responded to make repairs to the utility pole, which sits across from the Southington High School parking lot. The road is expected to be closed for “several hours,” according to dispatchers.
