SOUTHINGTON - No injuries were reported Wednesday when a sedan left the road and crashed into a fire hydrant on Redstone Street.

The accident was reported at about 2:22 p.m. in front of Yarde Metals, where a Nissan Altima struck a hydrant that ricocheted into a fence surrounding the metal supplier business, damaging the fence. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

An ambulance was dispatched to the crash for medics to evaluate the Altima driver as a precaution. The vehicle sustained damage to its passenger side, front end. It had to be towed.

The water department was notified about the fire hydrant to make repairs.

The crash occurred when very light flurries were moving through the area. No snow had accumulated yet.
