SOUTHINGTON - Bradley Mountain Farm has come up with a creative way to draw visitors while getting its beloved animals some extra attention.
“It’s a complete win-win-for us, for the goats, and for the people,” said farm owner Anneliese Dadras.
Every other weekend from spring to fall, the farm is hosting Fairy Goatmother play dates - an hour of scheduled play time between visitors and its goats. Prior to the event, visitors log onto its website and choose from 28 available goats such as Buckwheat, Clementine and Rosemary.
During play dates, visitors can spend their time how they wish; whether it be roaming around the property, cuddling with their goat or dressing them up in silly clothes. The play dates cost $15 and include a bag of goat food.
Fairy Goatmothers was Dadras’ idea; however, it was something a customer said that sparked it.
“One of my customers picked up a baby (goat) and said I’ll be your fairy goatmother and I’ll come every month and play with you and I thought - well that’s a great idea!”
Dadras also created “Goats N’ Pajamas,” a year-round event where visitors are invited to come and brush, feed, and dress a goat in pajamas before settling into a cuddle session. She said she was inspired from cute goat in pajama pictures she saw on the internet.
Bradley Mountain Farm goats are friendlier than your average goats because they’ve had lots of exposure to humans, according to Dadras.
“They are not at all afraid of people and I think that makes it easier for us to design events,” she said. “Our goats are just so friendly.”
While the play dates kicked off for the season last month, Dadras said there have been some repeat customers.
“That’s when we knew that it was something really special,” she said. “Some people would get home and sign right back up again.”
Bradley Mountain Farm is located on a 200-year-old dairy farm on the registry of National Historical places. It is open by appointment for various events such as birthday parties and weddings.
