SOUTHINGTON - Sarah Pelletier and Taylor Elliott have joined the Southington Community YMCA team as director of community development and marketing coordinator, respectively, and Julie Gianesini has been promoted to membership coordinator.

Pelletier, who started in April, works alongside YMCA staff and connects with community members, businesses and organizations to raise funds and coordinate a variety of events to help ensure everyone in the Southington community has access to a YMCA experience.

Pelletier grew up in Southington and went to college at Fordham University in New York City, where she received her bachelor’s degree in American studies and African American studies. With support from the Rotary Club of Southington, Pelletier won a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship that gave her the opportunity to travel to Australia and further her studies in the field of social change and development.

Before coming to the YMCA, Pelletier worked at the Hartford Public Library for nine years, starting in the Development Department and working her way up to director of programming and events. She handled a variety of tasks, including coordinating events of all sizes such as its annual gala, its Baby Grand Jazz Sunday concert series, author talks, writing, quilting and photography workshops, dance classes and more. Her passion for delivering quality services combined with her desire to serve in her hometown community is what brought her to the YMCA.

Pelletier enjoys reading, spending time with her family and friends, and enjoys throwing Friday night dance parties with her kids playing music on her “old school” record player.

She has enjoyed connecting with fellow YMCA staff and learning more about the extensive scope of services provided by the Southington Community YMCA that contributes to it being such a beloved pillar of the Southington community.

Gianesini, the new membership coordinator, assists with welcoming new members and ensuring all members are getting the most out of their memberships

Gianesini has worked at the YMCA for four years at the front desk, processing new memberships, being a central resource for all YMCA members ensuring that they get the most from the YMCA, and assisting the membership director with various tasks to ensure high-quality services.

In her spare time, she enjoys running, scrapbooking, and is a huge Disney fan. She enjoys meeting new members and helping them to fully experience all that the YMCA has to offer.

“We thank Julie for her years of dedication and hard work and we’re excited to see what she will bring to this position,” said Membership Director Jacquelyn Seegar.

Elliott, the Y’s new marketing coordinator, works on a variety of tasks, such as handling the YMCA social media outlets, updating members on current events and programs, organizing digital marketing campaigns, and assisting with events and campaigns throughout the YMCA.

“We are beyond pleased to welcome Taylor to the YMCA’s Marketing Department,” said Brittany Tripp, YMCA marketing director. “Since joining the team she has already contributed to making our little department stronger.”

Elliott is originally from Southington and went to college at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, where she graduated in May 2018 with her bachelor’s degree in marketing.

At FDU, Taylor was part of the Honors Program and made either deans or honors list each year. Along with this, she volunteered at a local animal shelter and was a member of Theta Phi Alpha, where she took on many roles such as managing campaigns to raise money for the American Heart Association.

During her time in college, she studied in England in January 2017 for for months, where she had an intense curriculum to meet the British education requirement. She was rewarded second place out of 55 students for her British Studies essay submissions.

After coming home from England, she moved to New Jersey to work as a summer resident assistant at FDU and pursued an internship at Pierre Fabre Pharmaceuticals, where she worked as a brand management intern.

At Pierre Fabre, she worked on projects handling graphic design, marketing collateral creation, budget management, tradeshow management, and other various projects necessary for brand management. After a year of working there, she was promoted to project manager in the fall of 2018.

Elliott came to the YMCA to move forward in her career and build on her knowledge of public relations, content creation, digital marketing, and campaign managing all while working with her hometown community.

Outside of her professional life, Elliott enjoys spending time with her loved ones, cooking, practicing a healthy lifestyle and coaching children. She feels that the YMCA has welcomed her with open arms and enjoys the friendly atmosphere. She is excited to continue her journey at the YMCA and build on her knowledge of digital marketing and community development.
