Southington woman stole someone's identity to open Internet account, two VISA cards: police

SOUTHINGTON -- A Southington woman has been accused of stealing someone’s identity.

Shawnya Watson, 36, allegedly opened an Internet account and two VISA cards using the victim’s name, police said Thursday.

She was arrested on July 16 on three counts of third-degree identity theft, two counts of falsely obtaining a credit card, two counts of attempted credit card theft and one count of sixth-degree larceny.

According to police, the victim sustained a balance of $334 because of the fraudulent activity.

Watson is free on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 13 in New Britain Superior Court.
