Area towns all but fully restored with power

Area towns were nearly without a power outage on Tuesday as Eversource looked to meet its goal of having restorations completed for all but fewer than 1% of the state a week after Tropical Storm Isaias hit.

Towns of Plainville and Newington, as of shortly after 3 p.m., had been fully restored without a single outage. Around the same time, Bristol had 53 -- 0.18% of the city -- without power, while New Britain had fewer than five without electricity, or about 0.01%.

Plymouth, which at one point after the storm had about 80% of its town in the dark, had fewer than two without power on Tuesday, which equates to about 0.02% of the town.

Berlin had six -- about 0.06% of the town -- without power, and Southington 30 -- or 0.15% -- still in the dark.

Tuesday afternoon, Eversource said it had restored power to 58,000 since Monday, and that it was on pace to substantially complete -- leaving fewer than 1% of its customers without power -- the remainder of the outages.

Shortly after 3 p.m., 22,075 -- about 1.72% of the state serviced by Eversource -- were without power.

“We’re at the late stages of the restoration process where the final outages often call for extensive repairs that are labor-intensive and time-consuming,” Eversource President of Regional Electric Operations Craig Hallstrom said in a statement. “For example, we can have five or more crews – which can be about 18 people – working most of the day to repair the damage at one location and that will bring power back to only one customer. Our massive team – in the field and behind the scenes – is fully committed to every single customer affected by Isaias and is working urgently to complete this restoration. As we get toward the end of this major restoration I personally want to thank the men and women who have put forward a historic response to this storm.”

At its peak, Eversource’s statement continued, there were 632,632 Eversource customers affected by outages caused by Isaias. Tropical Storm Irene and Superstorm Sandy caused 671,000 and more than 496,000, respectively.

Additionally, Eversource noted in its statement, Isaias caused damage at more than 20,000 locations around Connecticut, compared to 16,101 during Irene and 16,460 during Sandy.
