Every single area city and town is currently marked as â€śRed Alertâ€ť status when it comes to coronavirus cases in the state. New Britain, Bristol, Newington, Southington, Plainville, Berlin and Plymouth have all earned that distinction, according to state health officials Thursday.
On top of the red alert statuses that cover nearly every city and town in the entire state, there were four in the area that reported coronavirus-associated deaths, including Bristol, Newington, Berlin and Plymouth. There were 21 additional deaths statewide Thursday for a total of 4,805 since reporting began. There were 36,339 tests reported Thursday with 2,353 coming back as positive cases, a rate of 6.48%. There were 24 additional residents hospitalized with the virus over the past day for a total that now stands at 840.
Locally, Bristol had one additional coronavirus-associated death to move to 73 confirmed and eight probable overall. The city also had an increase of 47 residents confirmed as testing positive for coronavirus and five more considered probable. The city is up to 1,355 confirmed and 73 probable cases in all.
Newington had its 51st confirmed coronavirus-associated death, to go along with 13 considered probable, the latter of which remained level. The town also had an additional 13 residents confirmed and one more considered probable in testing positive for the virus Thursday. The town is up to 795 confirmed and 43 probable cases overall.
Berlin had an additional resident confirmed as dying from coronavirus-associated illness, bringing that total to 15 confirmed and three probable. The town also had 13 more residents confirmed as testing positive for coronavirus Thursday. Berlin has had 366 confirmed and 31 probable cases among residents since reporting began.
Plymouth also had a coronavirus-associated death reported, just the second in the town since reporting began. The town had eight new residents confirmed as testing positive for the virus for totals of 181 confirmed and 16 probable overall.
New Britain had 75 residents confirmed as testing positive for coronavirus Thursday and four more considered probable. The city is up to 2,648 confirmed and 172 probable since reporting began.
Southington went over 800 in residents confirmed as testing positive for the virus Thursday after another 17 confirmations were reported. The town also had an additional three probable cases added in the past day. The town is up to 801 confirmed and 65 probable cases overall.
Plainville had 11 additional residents confirmed as testing positive for coronavirus Thursday plus another one considered probable. The town is up to 372 confirmed and 26 probable cases in all.
