SOUTHINGTON – Hardcore Sweet Bakery owners and former winners of Cupcake Wars, Nicole and Jeremy Braddock, are celebrating 10 years as a business.
Mark Mango, an employee of the bakery, said his grandmother is the inspiration behind the shop. He said she always baked for him and his sister (Nicole) when they were children.
Mango said Braddock and her husband started the bakery in a cupcake truck.
“We still have the truck and a trailer, too. We did private events for that. The cupcake truck took off,” Mango said. “They went on the show Cupcake Wars and they won. Then they opened up the bakery. And then from there, it just took off. So it started off with a truck here.”
Mango said the bakery offers custom cakes, cupcakes, cake pops, whoopie pies, cookies and muffins.
According to Mango, the most popular dessert is cupcakes and the bakery has received positive feedback from the Southington community.
“They've been great,” he said. “They're willing to work with us a lot as we're willing to work with them on a lot of stuff. They've been very supportive,” he said.
Hardcore Sweet Bakery has another location in Watertown. The bakery was also in Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester, but has since closed down.
The bakery has been running for over 10 years, Mango said.
According to Mango, spring is the busiest season for the bakery and the summer is more stagnant.
“A lot of the business is driven by wedding cakes and truck rentals,” he said.
Mango said that despite a price increase for ingredients, the bakery is an affordable place to shop.
“The price of everything went up so much like our prices and the ingredients have skyrocketed,” Mango said. “We’re trying to keep it at a decent price.”
Hardcore Sweet Bakery is located at 168 Center St. in Southington.
