SOUTHINGTON – The Southington Community YMCA and the Southington Chamber of Commerce are joining forces for a new addition to the Apple Harvest Festival Road Races called "The Chamber Corporate Cup."

Local businesses and agencies will be encouraged to join the local 5K Road Race as a "corporate team." Registration for the Chamber Corporate Cup begins on July 1 and the Apple Harvest Festival Road Races are scheduled for Sunday, October 2.

In the Chamber Corporate Cup, the team with the lowest time average of three runners will win the "Chamber Corporate Cup Trophy." One trophy each will be awarded for men and women. A plaque will also be given to the company or agency that wins. The top three male and female finishers of the Chamber Corporate Cup division will also receive medals.

Mark Pooler, CEO of the Southington Community YMCA, said that the Chamber Corporate Cup is a "great extension" of the Y's partnership with local businesses.

"It is a great incentive for them to be active and increase their overall health and wellness while giving back to the community," said Pooler. "We are thankful to the Southington Chamber of Commerce and local businesses for their support of the Apple Harvest Road Races."

Barbara Coleman Hekeler, president and CEO of the Southington Chamber of Commerce, said she is "thrilled" to partner with the YMCA in sponsoring the Chamber Corporate Cup. She added that the Chamber was the founder and coordinator of the Apple Harvest Festival for its first 35 years.

"Participating in the race is a fun and healthy way to strengthen employee bonds and build greater camaraderie in the workplace,” said Coleman-Hekeler. "It is all about having fun, and of course defending the right for the coveted Chamber Cup to remain on display at your company each year.”

The cost to sign-up for the Chamber Corporate Cup is $30. $10 of each registration goes to support the Southington

Chamber of Commerce's community outreach programs and services.
