ROCKY HILL - The New Britain baseball team continued its hot start to the season as it scored three in the first en route to a 9-2 victory over Rocky Hill on Wednesday..

The game was tight heading into the final inning but the Hurricanes dropped a five-spot in the closing frame to eliminate any doubt as to the outcome.

Alex Silva bounced back from a shaky first start to earn the win in this one and New Britain (3-1) pounded out 10 singles. Justin Adorno was among the offensive standouts as he had two hits and an RBI, while Victor Boria added two hits of his own and two RBI.

Tolland 5, Southington 2: The Southington baseball team jumped out to an early two-run lead in its game against Tolland but was held scoreless for the rest of the contest. The Blue Knights were only able to get four hits in the game and committed the only error in the contest. Jeremy Mercier was credited with the loss, the first of the season for Southington. Among the highlights for the Blue Knights was a home run hit by Brayden Cooney in the first inning.

Goodwin Tech 6, Windham Tech 0: It was a strange game between Goodwin Tech and Windham Tech but David Plourde threw a no-hitter and the Gladiators came away with the 6-0 victory. The senior struck out 11 batters and would have thrown a perfect game, but the team allowed a batter to reach base on an error. Plourde picked off that lone base runner later in the inning so he did end up facing the minimum amount of batters in his seven innings of work.

Goodwin Tech (2-1) didn’t have much success offensively either, as it had just one hit, but the team drew seven walks and had three players hit by pitches to aid in scoring six runs.

Berlin 15, Wethersfield 2: The Berlin softball team scored multiple runs in each of the first five innings of its game against Wethersfield and cruised to an easy win. Michelle Cohen was the winning pitcher for the Redcoats and she had a lot of run support. Jackie Arute hit a double and one of three Berlin (2-0) triples in the game, while Lindsey Walsh also stood out going 3-4 with a triple, two runs scored, two stolen bases and three RBI.

Innovation 16, HMTCA 13: The Innovation softball team played a back-and-forth game against HMTCA but ended up pulling out the win in a high-scoring affair. The Ravens entered the bottom of the seventh inning up by six but HMTCA scored three runs and was threatening for more. Leanna Giles though, struck out the last hitter of the game with the winning runs on base to preserve the lead and pick up the win.

Stephanie Roviosa was among the offensive stars for Innovation as she hit a home run as one of the team’s four extra base hits. Imani Rosado had two of those extra-base hits as she hit a double and a triple.

Windham Tech 13, Goodwin Tech 8: The Goodwin Tech softball team couldn’t overcome three big innings Windham Tech put together on Wednesday and fell because of it. The Gladiators held the Beavers scoreless in three innings but the Beavers had two four-run innings and a five-run innings. Ashley Rivera took the loss for Goodwin Tech but contributed on offense with an RBI triple. Leina Rivera also had a big hit for the Gladiators as she opened the scoring with a bases-clearing triple in the first.

“We improved from the first two games defensively and our pitching showed some signs of progress,” head coach Paul Soucy said. “I am proud of the way the team came back today to battle a good team. We are young and inexperienced in many positions and we are trying to cut down on the mental and physical mistakes.”

New Britain 6, Manchester 1: The New Britain girls tennis team won its second straight match to start the season with a comfortable victory over Manchester. The Hurricanes were able to win all but one match on Wednesday as all three doubles pairs won in three sets and singles players Celeste Gigliotti, Marion Aguilar and Marissa Tabb added victories of their own.
