There was plenty of strong tennis play from the boys side this season, and the five players that make our All-Herald Boys Tennis Team represents some of the best the region.

Berlin’s Jon Trevethan continued his rise as the area’s top singles player. Having just completed his sophomore season, Trevethan finished 15-1 and reached the Class M finals and the State Open. His stellar play earned him both all-conference and All-State recognition. Look for Trevethan to only get better in his final two seasons with the Redcoats.

His teammate, Justin Kemmling, had a strong senior season. One half a formidable doubles team, Kemmling qualified for the Class M tournament, reaching the third round. He earned an All-CCC selection for his play. A high honor roll student, Kemmling will be attending Central Connecticut State this coming fall.

Newington got strong individual success with Ryan Dean this season. The junior moved up from the No. 4 singles to No. 1 this season and more than held his own, earning his second all-conference selection. He also attained high honors and the student recognition award.

New Britain qualified for the Class LL tourney and senior Travis Brown played a big part. The senior qualified on the individual side and earned All-CCC honors.

Southington’s Matthew Balaoing rounds out our team. The sophomore dominated the competition, reaching the Class LL tournament’s third round. He was rewarded with an all-conference selection. Expect Balaoing to only get better over his final two seasons.

With so many local players making the postseason, the five on this list represent the best of the best in the area.
