SOUTHINGTON - The Southington boys basketball team continues to show it can be a tough team to compete with in the Division III state tournament.
Andrew Lohneiss scored a game-high of 28 points while teammate Jeremy Mercier added 13 as the Blue Knights beat North Haven 64-48 during the second round of the Division III tournament Friday night.
Southington controlled the game from start to finish.
Lohneiss was able to get the Blue Knight on the board early in the first quarter, hitting three 3s, while Mercier added six points of his own.
A 16-point second quarter only improved Southington’s lead, as it held Indians scored just five points.
North Haven finally found offense in the second half, but as it found its offense, it also fell into foul trouble, giving up 15 points off free throws.
Southington will continue onto quarterfinals, as it will travel to second-seeded Waterford, Saturday at 7 p.m.
