PLAINVILLE - ABB Industrial Solutions has taken over the GE Industrial Solutions building at 41 Woodford Ave. as part of ABB’s acquisition of GE’s Industrial Solutions branch.

ABB, an international company, offers a wide range of products and services related to electrical equipment and batteries. It completed the acquisition of GE’s Industrial Solutions branch on June 30.

According to ABB’s website, abb.com, the company “is a pioneering technology leader that works closely with utilities, industry, transportation and infrastructure customers to write the future of industrial digitalization and realize value.”

According to a statement on the website, the acquisition will expand ABB’s access “to an attractive North American market.”

Town Manager Robert E. Lee said that he, along with Town Councilors Kathy Pugliese and Rosemary Morante as well as state Rep. William Petit Jr., R-Plainville, met with Tarak Mehta, president of ABB’s electrification products division, last Friday.

Pugliese mentioned that ABB had moved into the space at Monday’s Town Council meeting.

“ABB went there to address employees and fill them in about ABB,” said Lee. “They also were there to evaluate the facility. One thing that is positive for Plainville is that, although GE had branched out into a lot of different territories, this particular industrial solutions branch fits in very close to the core of ABB’s business and what they focus on. ABB’s representatives were also very impressed with the solar panel-powered electric car charging station in the parking lot.”

Meanwhile, the “wheels have kept rolling” at the company, despite the change in ownership.

Mark Devoe, Plainville’s economic development director, said he has been in communication with Jim Creevy, ABB’s country government relations manager for the United States.

“It sounds as though they plan to retain a lot of current employees,” he said. “There are about 240 employees currently at GE and we were very pleased to hear that.”
