NEW BRITAIN – The team approach and the technology offered at architectural firm Kaestle Boos Associates, Inc. is what one of the company’s employees said he enjoys the most about the business.

“We invested a lot in technology and virtual reality in the last few years, which we think sets us apart from most,” architectural firms Paul F. Dominov, said.

Kaestle Boos Associates is an architectural design firm headquartered in New Britain at 416 Slater Road. The company was founded in 1964 and it has offices in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Dominov has been working at the firm for 13 years. He was an associate principal architect and about a month ago, he was promoted to his current position as a principal architect. Dominov said he also enjoys the variety of projects the firm gets to work on and its focus on executing projects as a team.

“The character of our work really hasn’t changed over the years,” Charles W. Boos, one of the firm’s founders, said. “I think over the years we’ve been blessed with a lot of talent.”

While Kaestle Boos Associates works on a diverse number of projects, the business focuses on the design of K-12 educational facilities, municipal buildings, public safety institutions, corporate interiors and athletic fields and complexes.

Projects the company has completed within the city include the police station located at 10 Chestnut St., City Hall, at 27 West Main St., and multiple schools throughout the municipality.

The Smalley Academy building at 221 Farmington Ave. is one of the local projects that Kaestle Boos Associates is working on now. Boos

In addition to exterior and interior design, the company also helps prepare the documentation and project cost estimates on some projects.

“There are other disciplines involved,” Boos said. “Certainly, landscape architecture or site planning is a major component of a cost of a project, and we have that in house here. We also provide structural engineering, not on all of our projects but we have structural engineers here.”

Boos said that on average, a project on a building that’s 100,000 square feet takes from three to four years to be completed, depending on the type of project.

Boos has overseen award-winning projects including some improvements in the Griswold Public Schools. He is a member of the American institute of Architects and serves on the board of directors of the Hospital for Special Care and CCARC.
