NEW BRITAIN - The Beauty of Healthy is a new club with a focus on promoting healthy lifestyles through nutrition and exercise.

Iralis Diaz has worked as a licensed practical nurse for 11 years. During that time, she said, she noticed a change in the industry and realized that society’s habits of eating unhealthy food and poor exercise were increasing.

“A lot of the things that go on in our lives medically like diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol can be managed if you properly manage your diet,” Diaz said. “I just wanted to have my own hand in educating people and introducing them to a product that’s known worldwide and effective, if followed through and done properly.”

Diaz has been selling Herbalife products for five years from home, but she saw the need of promoting a healthier lifestyle and decided to sell them from her own business.

At 353 S. Main St., The Beauty of Healthy opened on June 1, offering a number of Herbalife products including supplements, protein shakes, meal replacements, protein bars and chia seeds.

Herbalife has been criticized over the years, with some people it is a pyramid scheme and a scam and that its products don’t always improve people’s health.

Diaz, though, said she has clients who have lost more than 100 pounds using the products.

The Beauty of Healthy also offers Zumba classes on Saturdays at 10 a.m. by an outside instructor. Yoga classes are offered on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., also by an outside instructor. Yoga and Zumba classes cost $6 per class and that fee includes a post-workout shake.

In addition, Diaz hosts a free group exercise class from Monday through Friday at 6 p.m. These classes are open to anyone.

“You have to exercise to feel better and that takes care of your mental health too.”

The Beauty of Healthy also offers free group challenges.

“It’s more of a positive reinforcement, uplifting, doing personal development, motivating one another, sharing recipes and exercises and coming together to join classes,” Diaz said.

Diaz said that parents are welcome to bring their children to the workout sessions if they don’t have a babysitter. Her goal is to have a community based business where people can feel comfortable learning and building relationships.

“I’ve always wanted to implement something within our community that we can reach out to people in an affordable way because there’s not a lot affordable access to exercise, gym and nutritional supplements,” she added.

The Beauty of Healthy is open Mondays and Tuesdays 9 a.m.–1 p.m. and 5:45–7:30 p.m.; Wednesdays 7 a.m.–7 p.m., Thursdays 7 a.m.–2 p.m. and 5:30–8 p.m.; Fridays 7 a.m.–2 p.m. and 5–7 p.m.; Saturdays 8 a.m.–noon and Sundays 8-10 a.m.
