United Avionics focuses on aerospace, defense industries

NAUGATUCK -United Avionics, Inc. was recently highlighted by U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy as his Monday Manufacturer.

United Avionics is a global supplier to the aircraft, defense commercial and aerospace industries. Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky, Honeywell Engines, and Aerospace, Collins Aerospace and the U.S. Department of Defense are among the customers of United Avionics.

“The cables and wires manufactured at United Avionics are used to power the helicopters and aircrafts that defend our country around the world,” Murphy said. “That’s a big deal. I want to thank UA for their years of service and dedication to manufacturing in Connecticut, especially when it comes to inspiring young people to stay in Connecticut and work in our growing manufacturing industry.”

United Avionics, located at 38 Great Hill Road, has been in business for more than 38 years.

The company’s products are used to help manufacture parts for the United State’s national defense including the UH-60 Blackhawk, Boeing CH47 Chinook, Sikorsky 53K Heavy Lift and Honeywell AGT1500.

In addition, United Avionics provides parts for programs including gas turbine engines, fixed and rotator wing aircraft, space exploration, rail transportation equipment, and test cells as well as land and sea vehicles.

“We are proud to be a Connecticut manufacturer,” said Tom Bunk, president of United Avionics, Inc. “We are fortunate to be in such close proximity to so many major government prime contractors.”

To help with early talent development, United Avionics routinely works with Naugatuck Valley Community College and Kaynor Technical High School, hiring students part time while in school to prepare them for full-time careers once they graduate.

United Avionics serves as an employer to 55 individuals on a full time basis. The company operates in a 22,000 square foot facility in Naugatuck.
