Tuesday morning brought the news that the UConn women's basketball team's game with Villanova Saturday was postponed due to a pause in the Wildcats' program following COVID-19 issues.
Tuesday afternoon the Huskies' schedule took a second hit.
The school and Big East announced that Wednesday's game against Seton Hall set for 4:30 p.m. at Gampel Pavilion was postponed. Out of an abundance of caution, the Huskies are postponing following the announcement of Providence’s pause due to COVID-19 related issues within its program, the school said. The Friars and Huskies played last Saturday at Gampel Pavilion.
The matchup with the Pirates was announced just last week after UConn's regularly-scheduled game at Xavier for Wednesday was postponed due to issues in the Musketeers' program.
UConn lost two non-league games in the Women's Hall of Fame Challenge and a non-league showdown with Louisville after a Tier-1 individual within the program tested positive for the coronavirus. The Huskies did add a game with UMass-Lowell and their first game with Seton Hall was moved twice before being played Dec. 15
A top-10 matchup at No. 6 Baylor scheduled for last Thursday was canceled on Jan. 5 after Bears' coach Kim Mulkey tested positive for COVID-19.
UConn (7-0 overall, 6-0 Big East) beat Providence 87-50 last Saturday behind Paige Bueckers (23 points) and Aubrey Griffin (18 points, nine rebounds).
"Today was game No. 7 for us and we're trying to get to No. 13," UConn coach Geno Auriemma said that day on his postgame Zoom call. "So now the only number that matters to me is 13. We've got to get to 13 games to qualify for the NCAA Tournament."
UConn's next game is scheduled for Jan. 19 when it hosts Butler.
