PLAINVILLE - A local man was arrested Thursday for allegedly threatening to rape and kill a woman during a domestic dispute.
Douglas Delfavero, 31, of 68 Whiting St., is facing charges of second-degree threatening, first-degree unlawful restraint, interfering with a 911 call, disorderly conduct, third-degree assault and third-degree strangulation.
According to the police report, a neighbor called police at about 11:32 p.m. Wednesday, reporting the sound of a woman screaming at Delfavero’s residence. Police responded and spoke to Delfavero and the female victim - who has not been identified because of the state’s domestic violence laws.
The woman told officers that Delfavero had made a sexual advance at her and she turned him down, the report said. He then allegedly told her he was going to rape her, she alleges.
The woman, having her phone in hand, told Delfavero she was going to call police. He got the phone away from her and then held it over a toilet, as if he was going to drop it inside, she told police. The woman then pushed Delfavero, and he grabbed her and held both of his hands over her mouth, according to the report. The woman was not able to breathe during this time.
The woman said she next felt Delfavero’s hands around her neck, before she pushed him away. She ran away and screamed “911,” hoping someone would hear her and get help. She then saw her phone, which Delfavero had dropped at some point, and noticed that a friend had called her.
Delfavero, the woman alleges, grabbed the phone and told the person on the other line that the victim was going to die. Police arrived shortly thereafter and were able to corroborate the threat with the friend who had heard part of the dispute.
Delfavero, when police spoke to him, admitted to arguing with the woman and pushing her, but denied anything more serious than that, according to the report.
Delfavero was arraigned Thursday in Bristol Superior Court, where a judge ordered he be held on $25,000 bond. His case was continued to Nov. 8 without a plea.
