BERLIN - He’s owned the business for 18 years, but it’s been in the same location for 30 years.
M & M Discount Wines and Liquors located at 22 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, is owned by Nelson Graca, who at the age of 29 said he wanted to be a business owner, and that is why he formed a partnership with another businessman, who has since left the company.
“I really, really, thoroughly enjoy what I do for a living, getting up in the morning is never a shore” said Graca. “I love talking about wines, and educating my customers on the different types and blends.”
The store always offers fully stocked wine shelves with many different varieties to choose from including specialties from port wines, to rosé wines, to the classic red and white selections.
“I probably have the largest wine selection in the area. It’s always so nice to hear my customers say how impressed they are with my selection. It makes what I do all worth it,” said Graca.
A large variety of liquor brands of gin, bourbon and vodka also fill the store’s shelves, as cold coolers for regular beer and a new craft beer section and IPA’s line the back walls of the store.
“We do have the lowest prices,” said Graca. “Mostly everything I have in the store is at state minimum not only to remain competitive but to pass the saving and convenience on to my customers. Come sample wines, we hold tastings on most weekends.”
M & M welcomes all customers and are always ready to help guide them with your purchase, whether it’s just a bottle of wine for dinner or that special event.
After recently resetting the store for more shelf space, Graca said expanding the bourbon selection and adding more shelves for more varieties will be forthcoming.
“Even though I’m happy with the current selection, it will be bigger than what we have now,” said Graca.
Graca offers service such as, providing product for parties, weddings and other special occasions. M & M does make deliveries. He’s looking to attract more customers from New Britain and Meriden who travel along Chamberlain Highway, which connects the two cities.
While Graca is focused on growing his store’s customer base, he also finds time to stay involved in the community as a member of Berlin Zoning Board of Appeals.
The store is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call Graca at 860-829- 2123.
