NEW BRITAIN - It was hard for the Terryville boys basketball team to slow down Innovation from the start and that was just fine with Ravens head coach Matt Lance.

LJ Hazelwood and CJ Allen each finished with a double-double (13 points and 12 rebounds for Hazelwood, 15 points and 13 rebounds for Allen) as Innovation used a 24-poitn first quarter to set the tone and cruise to a 72-44 win over Terryville Wednesday night.

“I was really, really happy with how we started that first quarter,” Lance said. “It was as strong of a quarter as we played all season. We just have to keep sustaining that and continue to get better.

Gabe Matias added 16 points and Dashawn Hill contributed 13 point to go along with eight rebounds for the Ravens (17-2), who held a 35-12 lead at the break and a 57-28 advantage after three.

“Having four guys with 13 points or more was huge for us,” Lance said. “It really balances our offense. We were scoring in the paint and from the outside tonight.”

Southington 48, Wethersfield 44: Dylan Olson scored a game-high 17 points and Jared Kelly contributed 15 as the Blue Knights earned their 10th win of the season.

Tied 24-24 at the half, Southington managed to take a one-point lead after three and pulled out the win after a 15-point fourth quarter.

Goodwin Tech 44, Platt Tech 40: Ericka Aponte scored a team-high 15 points and Megan Lukeszewski added 10 as the Gladiators improved to 12-8 on the season.

The game was close throughout the evening, but it was the first quarter and Goodwin Tech’s 16 points in it that made the difference.

Southington 90, Farmington 80: The Blue Knights improved to 8-1 and remained perfect in conference (4-0) after a number of strong performances.

Tyler Heidgerd and Derek Melanson were both double winners. Heidgerd took first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.54) and 100 backstroke (57.25), while Melanson won the 200 IM (2:07.98) and 100 butterfly (57.17).

Brian Egan (100 freestyle (54.32)) and Jackson Malsheske (500 freestyle (5:16.38)) were other individual winners for Southington.

The Blue Knights also won all three relay events.
