Connecticut’s best high schoolers gather for annual hoops shooutout

NEW BRITAIN — Some of the state’s top basketball talent will be showcased Tuesday night at the New Britain High School gymnasium for the second annual High School Hoops All-Star Shootout.

A game pitting the state’s best sophomores and freshmen will take place at 6 p.m. The talented junior class takes the floor at 7 p.m. followed by the seniors at 8.

“We decided to do it last year and the energy level was great,” New Britain coach Stan Glowiak said. “We had good attendance. It’s a good time to do it because the kids can’t wait for season to start.”

The following will play in the senior game, listed here with their high schools and colleges to which they’ve committed: 6-9 Jordan Williams (Torrington High/Maryland), 6-9 Daryl McCoy (Hartford Public/Drexel), 6-6 Adrian Satchell (Windsor/Maryland-Baltimore County), Anthony Ireland (Crosby-Waterbury), Steve Samuels (Windsor), Spencer Noon (Farmington), Cody Otto (Glastonbury), Vic Anderson (Wethersfield) and Cody Bayne (Bristol Eastern).

Playing in the junior game: 6-7 Tyler Olander (E.O. Smith-Storrs), 6-7 Jakari McCallop (East Hartford), 6-5 Josh Turner (Sacred Heart-Waterbury), 6-5 Corey Andrews (Sacred Heart-Waterbury), 6-5 Darius Watson (New Britain), 6-7 Ryan Kolb (Holy Cross-Waterbury), 6-5 Ryan Delaire (Windsor), Dan Lawhorn (Hartford Public), Steven Glowiak (New Britain), Isiah Salafia (Cromwell), Phil Gaetano (Shelton), Javon Williams (East Hartford), Julian Harris (Northwest Catholic), Jordan Lewis (Northwest Catholic) and Tae Jackson (Middletown).

The sophomore game will include: 6-9 Andre Drummond (Capital Prep-Hartford), 6-6 Mike Fraylon (Weaver), 6-6 K.C. Hoff (Career-New Haven), John Papale (Sheehan-Wallingford), Anthony Jernigan (East Hartford), Jerome Harris, Rohan Brown and Steve Santavenere (East Catholic-Manchester), Rich Conway (Berlin), Brandyn Benson (Career-New Haven), Zaquan Nelson (Wilby-Waterbury) and Fred Wilson (Hillhouse-New Haven).

Doors open for spectators at 5:45 p.m. Admission is $5 for all three games.

Any revenue above expenses will go to New Britain High School and the Connecticut Basketball Club, an AAU program that Coach Glowiak helps administer.

" This should be a good event. One question why there isnt any kids from southen part of CT invited to this event. Kids from Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford. There is alot of talent in those cities. "
