Sylvester “Cy” Waznia
Sylvester “Cy” Waznia, 83, of Berlin, the widower of Stasia V. (Janik) Waznia, died Tuesday morning at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain.
Born in Nanticoke, Pa., the son of the late Peter and the late Josephine (Ronczka) Waznia, he graduated from Berlin High School, received the Bronze Star for service in the U.S. Army in Korea, and was co-owner of Cy & Henry’s Sunoco.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Church, the Italian Political Independent Club, V.F.W. Post No. 10732, and the Polish National Home in Hartford, and loved the time he spent with his grandchildren and extended family, especially Joe and Uni Ronczka.
He is survived by a son, Steven Waznia; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Waznia, and three grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas and Shelby Waznia, all of Berlin.
A funeral liturgy will take place Friday at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Paul’s Church, 467 Alling St., Kensington. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain, will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department, 880 Farmington Ave., Berlin 06037.
