Area drivers will continue to see an increase in price at the gas pump, with $3 a gallon expected in the near future.

“While April saw minimal fluctuation, May is likely to see much larger increases as demand spikes especially closer to Memorial Day weekend, which will likely push the average price for gas in Connecticut above the $3 benchmark,” said Amy Parmenter, spokesperson for AAA in Greater Hartford. “Compared to May 2019, US gasoline demand is down only 4% and gas prices are on average just two cents more.”

Entering May, the average price for a gallon of gas is $2.90 on a national level and $2.95 in Connecticut. The state’s average is up 3 cents over last week, 6 cents over a month and up more than a dollar than this time last year.

In the Hartford region, the average price is less, at $2.91. In the Bridgeport area, the average is $3.01.

Locally, according to the website GasBuddy, the prices are still lower than those averages.

In Bristol, there are six gas stations selling for under $2.80 a gallon, with the lowest by 7 cents being the Valero on West Street at $2.69.

In New Britain, there are three stations under $2.80, including Costco at $2.67 and City Gas on South Main Street at $2.75 being the lowest.

In Southington, there are four gas stations under $2.80, with the lowest being BJ’s at $2.69 and Gasman on Main Street at $2.72.

In Newington, there are five gas stations priced $2.75 or under, including Sam’s Club at $2.65 and Xpress Fuel on the Berlin Turnpike at $2.71.

In Berlin, the Citgo and Gulf on the Berlin Turnpike are both priced at $2.69 a gallon.

In Plainville, the lowest is the Gulf on New Britain Avenue at $2.73.
