The 2021 Little League Baseball and Softball World Series will be played as scheduled this summer, featuring teams from the United States only.
The Little League Board of Directors approved a plan from the 2021 Little League International Pandemic Response Advisory Commission that includes new covid-19 precautionary measures in order to host the tournaments in a safe manner.
“Little League puts the health, well-being, and safety of all players and volunteers first, and we are looking forward to hosting the Little League Regional and World Series tournaments with that aim this summer,” Dr. Daniel Lueders, Commission Chair, Little League International Board of Directors Member, and UPMC Sports Medicine Physician and Assistant Professor, said. “The Commission's recommendations reflect the most current CDC protocols, as well as direct input from state and local public health authorities. The advice of the leading public health, pediatric medicine, epidemiology, mental health, and operations experts on the Commission prioritize the health and safety of the players, volunteers, family, and fans above all else. We are confident that the implementation of these recommendations by Little League International will permit a safe and successful competition this summer and preserve the spirit and the experiences that make those events so special.”
All players and coaches will be tested before they arrive and unvaccinated participants will continue to be tested throughout the tournament.
Vaccinations are strongly encouraged for coaches and managers and recommended for players if and when a vaccine should be available to them. Additionally, limited off-field activities will be available to reduce the risk of exposure.
The teenage divisions [Intermediate (50/70) Baseball, Junior League Baseball, Junior League Softball, Senior League Baseball, and Senior League Softball] will not feature Region and World Series events for the second year in a row.
Sixteen teams will make up the Little League Baseball World Series with the top two teams advancing from the eight U.S. region tournaments, while the Little League Softball World Series will include 10 teams, with two teams from each region tournament moving on.
Lastly, there no will be no spectators at the Little League Baseball and Softball Region and World Series tournaments, however, arrangements will be made for family members and a limited number of individuals with the team.
The Little League Baseball Eastern Region Headquarters are located in Bristol and games are set to take place in late July through early August.
