NEW BRITAIN – The alleged kidnapping on Corbin Avenue that spread on social media Wednesday afternoon turned out to be a false alarm.
According to New Britain police, there had been a report of a child being taken against their will in the area of Dean Drive Wednesday afternoon, but through investigation they determined no abduction had taken place.
“It was a false alarm and no child had been taken,” the police department told the Herald.
News of an alleged abduction on Corbin Avenue was shared over a thousand times on Facebook within an hour of it being posted. Dean Drive is off of Corbin Avenue, so police say that was likely the dispatch the post referred to.
Police say the dispatch to Dean Drive was the only dispatch related to a potential kidnapping this afternoon.
