John 'Jack' F. Cullum, Jr.

John “Jack” F. Cullum Jr., 81, of Newington, beloved husband of Mary Ann (Luebke) Cullum of almost 50 years, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021. Jack was born in New Britain on April 26, 1939 the son of the late John F. Cullum Sr. and Gertrude (York) Cullum, and brother of the late Ken Cullum. A 1957 graduate of NBHS where he played baseball (captaining his Senior Year) and football. He was especially proud that the 1955 football team were State Champs and played in the Orange Bowl that year. Jack attended (TCC) CCSU where he earned his B.S. and M.S degrees in Biology & Science. At CCSU, he played baseball again captaining the team his Senior Year. Post-graduate work was conducted with the National Science Foundation, UConn, University of Rhode Island and Cornell. In his professional career, Jack was a science teacher with Middlebury and Wethersfield Middle Schools, where he was named Head of Science. He retired after over 30 years of teaching. In his retirement, Jack enjoyed fishing, gardening, UConn men & women basketball, Notre Dame Football and rooting for the Red Sox and Yankees. He was especially passionate about photography, even teaching courses at the Boys and Girls Club of New Britain.

Jack is survived by his son Jason and wife Kate and their two beautiful granddaughters Ava Grace and Violet of Baltimore, Md., his sister Janice and her husband Ray Koley of New Britain, his sister-in-law Darlene and brother-in-law Wayne Hansen of Bloomington, Minn. Ceremonies will be private at the request of the family.

The Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, has charge of arrangements. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of New Britain, 150 Washington St., New Britain, CT 06051.
