Berlin has coronavirus-associated death; Newington moves to 'Orange Alert' status, while New Britain, others remain red

Newington has dropped to “Orange Alert” status when it comes to coronavirus cases, while all other area cities and towns remained in “Red Alert” status Thursday, according to state health officials.

There were 41,344 coronavirus tests reported Thursday with 737 coming back as positive cases, a positivity rate of 1.78%. There was an increase of eight over the past day in state residents hospitalized with the virus for a total of 515.

Berlin had a coronavirus-associated death to report Thursday, its 31st overall. There were 12 deaths reported statewide over the past for an overall total of 8,039.

New Britain has had 204 virus-associated deaths among residents, while Bristol has had 133, Newington 100, Southington 94, Plainville 37, Berlin 31 and Plymouth 9 since reporting began.

New Britain had 22 new coronavirus cases reported Thursday and has had an overall total of 9,201.

Bristol added 14 new coronavirus cases since Wednesday and has had an overall total of 5,744.

Southington had 12 new virus cases over the past day and has had 3,553 cases overall.

Newington had an additional one case reported since Wednesday and has an overall total of 2,653.

Berlin had two more cases over the past day and has an overall total of 1,522.

Plainville had two new virus cases reported since Wednesday and has an overall total of 1,501.

Plymouth added one new coronavirus case over the past day and has an overall total of 910.
