Newington drops to 'Yellow Alert' status, while New Britain, Berlin, Southington, Plainville remain 'red' for covid cases

For the second straight week, Newington dropped a level in the state’s coronavirus alert system. The town dropped to “Yellow Alert” Thursday after being in “Orange Alert” a week ago, according to state health officials. Berlin, Bristol, New Britain, Plainville, Plymouth and Southington all remained in “Red Alert” for coronavirus cases.

There were four coronavirus-associated deaths reported statewide for an overall total of 8,084. There were no virus deaths from the area.

New Britain has had 208 virus-associated deaths among residents, while Bristol has had 133, Newington 100, Southington 94, Plainville 37, Berlin 31 and Plymouth 10 since reporting began.

There were 36,200 coronavirus tests reported Thursday with 486 coming back as positive cases, a positivity rate of 1.34%. There was a decrease of four state residents hospitalized over the past day with the virus for a total of 403.

New Britain had 17 new coronavirus cases reported over the past day and has had an overall total of 9,339.

Bristol added five new coronavirus cases reported Thursday and has had an overall total of 5,826.

Southington had five new virus cases over the past day and has had 3,610 cases overall.

Newington had an additional one case reported since Wednesday and has an overall total of 2,665.

Berlin had three more cases over the past day and has an overall total of 1,543.

Plainville had three new virus cases reported since Tuesday and has an overall total of 1,534.

Plymouth added six new coronavirus case over the past day and has an overall total of 936.
